Corrections and reader reports

Report a data, definition, or ranking error without an account. See how corrections are reviewed and applied across all site outputs.

Send the page and the number

Email [email protected] with the page URL, the state or jurisdiction, the measure, and the value you believe is wrong. Include a link to the original source and its release date if possible. You do not need to create an account.

A screenshot can help identify a display problem, but the source file, row, and definition are especially useful for data concerns. For a custom ranking, include the share URL so we can reproduce the selected weights and directions. Avoid sending sensitive personal information.

What we check

We compare the published value with the archived producer file and the cited release. We check units, denominators, geographic coverage, source precision, and ranking direction. A different order on another website may reflect a different measure, year, or ranking universe; that alone does not establish an error.

If a producer revises a release, we distinguish the revision from a mistake in our own extraction or calculation. If a source is no longer comparable, we do not splice its new observations into an old trend without explaining the break.

One correction, all outputs

When an error is confirmed, we correct the normalized observation or method and rebuild dependent pages. That includes the ranking table, map, CSV, embed, report card, comparison tool, and custom score where applicable. We record substantive changes in the publication log, including what changed and which measures were affected.

Until review is complete, a report is a concern rather than a confirmed error. We review every report, but we can’t guarantee a response time.

Request data we do not cover

Send the question you need to answer, the population and geography, and how you would use the result to [email protected]. We use reader requests to inform coverage; a request is not a commitment to publish a ranking. Please send aggregate research needs rather than personal household information.

Correction record

October 4, 2026: corrected percentage-point gap labels, summaries that omitted tied states, signed change bars, mobile embeds, citation dates, and search indexing of saved tools. These were presentation and reproducibility fixes; original ACS observations were retained.
