Quick validation snapshot

New York has the highest estimate ($123,273); Mississippi has the lowest ($55,117). The U.S. benchmark is $90,294. These are useful checks when importing the CSV into a spreadsheet. Reference jurisdictions may lie outside the 50-state range, so exclude rows marked reference when reproducing the default state ranks.

BEA does not publish margins of error for state GDP. Estimates are revised as source data improve; recent years change the most.

Calculation and reproducibility

Current-dollar GDP (BEA SAGDP1 line 3) × 1,000,000 / July 1 resident population of the same year (Census Vintage 2025). BEA does not publish GDP per capita by state.

Limits and reuse

GDP per person is not income per person. States where many workers commute in from elsewhere, or with large capital-intensive industries such as energy or finance, have high GDP per capita relative to residents’ incomes.

This is an independent arrangement of federal statistical data. Cite the named producer for the original observations and Rank the States for computed ranks. Downloading or embedding does not imply government endorsement. Source files are archived with a checksum for reproducibility.
