Quick validation snapshot
California has the highest estimate ($3,001); West Virginia has the lowest ($1,272). The U.S. benchmark is $2,035. These are useful checks when importing the CSV into a spreadsheet. Reference jurisdictions may lie outside the 50-state range, so exclude rows marked reference when reproducing the default state ranks.
Margins of error are 90% survey margins. Preserve them when reshaping the data; an empty cell and a numeric zero have different meanings.

Selected costs include more than the mortgage payment. Owners without a mortgage are outside this universe.
