What is in this file
One row per state, plus DC and Puerto Rico where available. The rank universe is 50 states; reference rows have an empty rank. The file is sorted by descending value with reference jurisdictions after the states.

Quick validation snapshot
California has the highest estimate ($72,809); West Virginia has the lowest ($35,230). A national estimate is not calculated for this derived measure. These are useful checks when importing the CSV into a spreadsheet. Reference jurisdictions may lie outside the 50-state range, so exclude rows marked reference when reproducing the default state ranks.
Margins of error are 90% survey margins. Preserve them when reshaping the data; an empty cell and a numeric zero have different meanings.
Calculation and reproducibility
Weighted mean of adjusted household income minus twelve times adjusted monthly housing costs. 90% MOE = 1.645 sqrt((4/80) sum((replicate mean - full mean)^2)). Signed replicate weights are retained.

| period | Reference period of the observation. |
| release | Date of the source release. |
| source | Producer and table/file identifier. |

Limits and reuse
Before taxes and other living expenses. Not disposable income, savings, or a typical family budget. No-cash-rent homes, vacant homes, and group quarters are excluded; zero and negative income are retained. Means are sensitive to high incomes. Census allocation and top/bottom coding are retained. This is an experimental independent calculation, not an official Census table.
This is an independent arrangement of federal statistical data. Cite the named producer for the original observations and Rank the States for computed ranks. Downloading or embedding does not imply government endorsement. Source files are archived with a checksum for reproducibility.
